Have you ever stopped to think how the social media affects your world, the way you look at and think about things? Or how it affects the way the world around us works? We live in a world full of distractions and it often feels quite impossible to escape social media. Though there can be goodness in there, these ever-present visual “spectacles” can quickly affect our hearts more than we would like to admit. This is what Tony Reinke starts to unfold in his newest book, Competing Spectacles.
In a journalistic style with short chapters, Tony Reinke shows us just how distracting these spectacles in our lives have become. He calls us to ask critical questions about what we actually are focusing on. Competing Spectacles offers the reader new perspectives into media, with information on history and the effects of media throughout history. It also offers practical steps to redirect our gaze away from these addictive spectacles, leading us back to Jesus.
I found this book was an interesting and informative read. It was a good book on such an important topic. However, Tony Reinke held such a balanced and solid view throughout the whole book. There was no condemnation on the pages; rather, Tony Reinke gives understanding to all sides. In all of it, he encourages the reader to go back to Jesus.

I was given a free copy of the book by the publisher in exchange for a review. However, I was not required to write a positive review. These are all my own opinions.
