God's love for you
“When I fall, I will arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light to me.” (Micah 7:8)
Dear friend, I wanted to write you about something.
But then I saw your heart — on the verge of breaking under the pressure of this world, fragile and crumbling down silently. If only I could tell you just how much my heart is hurting for you, this heart of mine with broken corners and cracked edges. I saw your soul, so lost and trying to grasp hold of anything you can, screaming help with those hidden tears of yours. If only I could tell you just how much I am hurting with you, that dull ache of my soul still loud in my ears.
I saw you — and my world stopped for a moment, holding my breath to stop myself from breaking apart when I noticed that you are about to do the same. And I wanted to tell you what the Lord had told me just that morning, those words that left me with tears in my eyes and grace in my heart.
It is going to be alright. We are going to be alright.
“[Love] bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” (1 Corinthians 13:7)
I read these words often — wanting to be more like Jesus in the way I love people, to become more like Him. More often than not, I fall way short, this heart of mine too small and too stubborn to be able to love people like they should be loved.
But what I often forget, is that this is also the way that Jesus loves, both you and me.
If today you have fallen short and failed — maybe miserably so — just turn to Jesus. See His love for you, how He walked that broken road to Calvary and how His scarred hands now carry you and your sin. His love bears all things. His love covers all things, your sins included — it does not proclaim your errors or mistakes. So turn to Jesus, beloved. Confess where you went wrong, and see how it is all left at the foot of the cross. It is going to be alright.
“And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.” (1 Peter 4:7)
If today you have turned back to Jesus after wandering in the darkness for a long time — just keep coming to Him. Maybe you are filled with shame and guilt; maybe you are hurting or still lost in the confusion. See God’s love for you, how He chooses to believe the best of your heart even when you are not sure of your motives. He has confidence in your future, He hopes for the best and believes in that hope.
Most of all, dear one — Jesus’ love for you endures all things. All things. I know, beloved, how it hurts to have failed once again and just how much you hate your shortcomings and weakness. But Jesus’ love for you endures all. All that you have been, all that you are. All that you have done, all that you will do. He will keep bearing and believing and hoping and enduring — all because He loves you.
