God in the Here and Now & GraceFull Tuesday Link-Up

“We have the idea that God is going to do some exceptional thing, that He is preparing and fitting us for some extraordinary thing by and by, but as we go on in grace we find that God is glorifying Himself here and now, in the present minute.” (Oswald Chambers)

I read this quote from Oswald Chambers yesterday morning, and I ended up thinking about the throughout the day. Because truth to be told, I get caught looking at life with God just this way. I look at how God is at work in me; how He has been at work in me all these years now. And I expect these grand schemes — that God is going to do an exceptional thing at some point. Maybe God will show up in a miraculous, mighty way in my life. Or maybe God will use me in an unexpected way for something.

And yet this way, I miss most of what God is doing. Because life with God? Is made of the present moment — the here and now. Though God, in His grace, can use me in unexpected and grand ways at some point? He can also use me know. As little that I have to give right now, God can use me. He takes what I have, and He uses me (in spite of all that).

Our God is a powerful God. He can move mountains — and I know that moving my heart, at times, is like moving a mountain. So He can touch our circumstances, change our hearts, deliver us, and heal us. He can give us a new beginning, a new life, a new chance. Which is why it is important for us to set our eyes on the here and now. Because God is here, right now.

So be encouraged, my friend. There is hope for today. You are not alone, and God is working in you and through you even now.

  2. “Because life with God? Is made of the present moment — the here and now.” I’ve been trying to embed this concept deep in my soul the past few years, and am currently re-reading The Power of Now with my book club. God is here, God is now! Thanks, Ronja.

  4. I firmly believe that God is present and active at all times,… or as Eph 4:6 says God is “over all, through all and in all.” Since that’s true, it’s up to us to open our eyes and look for Him, just like you said, in the here and now.

    1. Yes, Karen! He truly is over all, through all and in all. Which is somehow both challenging and comforting at the same time — because it is up to us to open our eyes so that we can see Him. Thank you for visiting here today, Karen! God bless you!

  6. I’d never heard that quote, Ronja but it says so much. I pray to enjoy the present moment rather than living for the next big thing God will do.
