“We have the idea that God is going to do some exceptional thing, that He is preparing and fitting us for some extraordinary thing by and by, but as we go on in grace we find that God is glorifying Himself here and now, in the present minute.” (Oswald Chambers)
I read this quote from Oswald Chambers yesterday morning, and I ended up thinking about the throughout the day. Because truth to be told, I get caught looking at life with God just this way. I look at how God is at work in me; how He has been at work in me all these years now. And I expect these grand schemes — that God is going to do an exceptional thing at some point. Maybe God will show up in a miraculous, mighty way in my life. Or maybe God will use me in an unexpected way for something.
And yet this way, I miss most of what God is doing. Because life with God? Is made of the present moment — the here and now. Though God, in His grace, can use me in unexpected and grand ways at some point? He can also use me know. As little that I have to give right now, God can use me. He takes what I have, and He uses me (in spite of all that).
Our God is a powerful God. He can move mountains — and I know that moving my heart, at times, is like moving a mountain. So He can touch our circumstances, change our hearts, deliver us, and heal us. He can give us a new beginning, a new life, a new chance. Which is why it is important for us to set our eyes on the here and now. Because God is here, right now.
So be encouraged, my friend. There is hope for today. You are not alone, and God is working in you and through you even now.
