in times of trouble and trials
“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.” (Psalm 91:14-15)
It should not surprise us when adversity falls our way. So many times it is told to us in the Bible that we need not be afraid, that no evil will befall us, or that He will be with us in trouble. This here, it means that there will be days when we are afraid. There will be days when it feels like evil has overtaken us or like we have been caught in a trap of the enemy. There will be nights that terror takes over, when the darkness truly seems dark and scary.
What a wonderful thing it is that we have His Word to lean upon! We can be comforted by His promises, and encounter our fears, hurts, and failures with His Truth. When we turn to Him with our whole hearts and give Him all — our hearts, souls, dreams, fears, mistakes. He will answer our call. He will be with us in our trouble and trials, He will be walking with us through the darkness and the storms. He will deliver us from our captivity and fears, from our past and our present trouble — but it will be done in His timing, whether here on earth or in heaven.
“You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.” (Psalm 32:7)
God does not promise that He will prevent all trouble, or that He will deliver us right away. What He does tell us, is that He is with us in times of trouble and trials. He is our refuge; He is our hiding place where we are safe. Even in the midst of trials and suffering we can find joy and blessings in what God is doing in us, in what He has already done for us.
So hold on to His promises. Call upon Him and He will answer. The Lord is with you in your trouble; He is with you wherever you are. Wait on the Lord, take courage in Him. Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His face. He will strengthen your heart.
“Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!” (Psalm 27:14)
