the blessedness of trusting the Lord

Loved hiking on the hills so much

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose hope is in the LORD. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit.” (Jeremiah 17:7-8)

These days, I find myself in these moments where I am holding my breath, the feeling not knowing what the next day will hold or where the leading of the Lord will take me pushing behind the scenes in an overwhelming way. These days, are the days of breaking my selfish ways and my selfish heart — this journey the hardest one to walk, the one that requires the most of my heart as it requires the whole of my heart, the fractured corners and broken pieces, the hollow parts and the parts barely holding on.

I have found that in yielding to the Lord, trusting Him with the hopes of my heart — is where my selfish heart struggles, wanting to keep hold of these dreams and desires, to have control over what comes next, what is given and what is taken away. In this broken world of messy people, these dreams that are beautiful and pure seem too good to let go of; something that we want to keep holding close to our hearts, unwilling to open our hands and offer what we have to the Lord. And this here, is it not so often the hardest thing for us — to open our hands and willingly offer to the Lord our hearts and our lives, to be used however He deems the best?

We keep telling ourselves that these dreams and desires are beautiful and righteous enough for us to keep holding on them, to refuse to let go and even offer the possibility to the Lord to decide whether or not He will make these things come to pass. In the tossing of the waves of this life, it is so much easier to keep holding these close to our hearts, in our fear of Him taking away from us.

“Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.” (Psalm 62:8)

But in the midst of these winds and waves tossing us, these mountains before and behind us — we know that blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD — the Lord our God, YHWH, the God who meets with us where we are, who will become what we need, and who wants a relationship with us. Blessed is the man who trusts that this is the Almighty God, that here is the God With Us, the One who cares for our needs and grieves over our pain and holds our breaking hearts in His gentle hands.

So we trust in the Lord, we hope in Him — knowing that no powers or things present or things to come can separate us from His love. We are safe in His hands, these scarred hands that bled for us keeping us, holding our hearts together and molding us into something so much more beautiful. These are the hands that shaped the world, and surely they will shape our future into something glorious as well.

  • Ronja, Your words are always so beautiful! I love these encouraging words to keep trusting and keeping our hands open to what God can only bring to pass and being content if he doesn't. Hope you are doing well in your new adventure! xo

Valerie, thank you so much for your sweet words! What a blessing it always is to have to stop by here. :) It definitely has been a needed reminder and a great encouragement from the Lord to keep trusting Him in everything and with everything. After all, He is always good and we are always loved. Yes, I'm doing great here at the Bible College. I am so incredibly blessed. :)

What encouraging truth. When struggling to trust, I always have to remind myself that He is a good Father. If I hand Him something, He's going to turn it into something even better. I love your picture- it looks just like where I live in Eastern Oregon.

    • Ronja

Thank you Kelsey! He truly is a good Father, and He wants only the best for us. I think the hard part is when that best is something different than what we thought it would be. But He only gives good and perfect gifts, and surely His ways are always better than ours. :) Thank you for your visit, Kelsey! God bless you!

Just beautiful. Yes, yes, and amen. Thank you for this encouragement today, for I always struggle with trusting God completely. I look at the waves and the wind and the tossing storms, and forget to hold on to the hand of the One Who Walks on Water... GOD BLESS.

Thank you Sharon! It really is so hard to trust God completely in everything and with everything, as we so often fall into thinking that our ways would be better. I'm so glad that He is right there beside us, holding us up with His righteous right hand. Blessings to you!
