Book Review: The Way of Abundance by Ann Voskamp

The Way of Abundance by Ann Voskamp

It is no secret that Ann Voskamp is one of my favorite authors, if not the favorite. I have read her blog for many years now, so often touched by her words and her heart. Her books, One Thousand Gifts and The Broken Way are both my favorites. So when I had the chance to read The Way of Abundance? Yeah, I was in.

The Way of Abundance contains 60 devotions, all including a soulful story that speaks to your brokenness and heartbreak. These devotions dare us to embrace our brokenness and to live in givenness, just like in the Broken Way. Christ Himself broke like bread, and we will be blessed when we do the same. Our brokenness doesn’t have to be a burden; rather, it can be a gift to others.

For book reviewing purposes, I read this faster than in 60 days. I would usually read a couple devotions whenever I had the time. I found that these were great when read like this as well. All these devotions spoke right to my heart. They were easy and quick enough to read on top of all my Bible reading. They were also great when read at other times. There were quite a few stories I had already read in the Broken Way. Some stories have also come up on her blog. Still, I loved reading these devotions. There was so much wisdom here, like always with Ann Voskamp.

Friend, if you like Ann Voskamp, I would most definitely recommend getting this devotional. It will be a great addition to your morning reading. So get this for yourself. Get this for your friend who is going through a hard season.

  1. Ronja,
I, too, am a huge Ann Voskamp fan. I have been for a long time!! I have not read this book yet so I appreciate your review. If you have not done it already, you have to read “The Greatest Gift” as an Advent devotional starting Dec. 1. This, more than anything, has helped set the mood and tone for Advent for me.
