Friends, today I have the pleasure to introduce you to Kayla from The Accidental Nomad Life. She wrote this devotional on Job 4:6 — and if you have read through the book of Job, you know there are some golden lessons for us to learn. So join me today as Kayla shares with us on finding our confidence in the Lord.
I’m going through the book of Job right now and as I was reading, Job 4:6 stood out to me very strongly the other day. It’s at the beginning of the first lecture he receives from his friends. As the chapter opens, his friend is very gracious with him, reminding him of Job’s faith…
I believe his friend could have stopped at this verse and let it be at that.
“Is not your fear of God your confidence and the integrity of your ways your hope?” (Job 4:6)
Isn’t that just a beautiful reminder?
I feel like, no matter what we are facing, this is the very best question to be asked. It poses the question, “where is your faith” without accusing; it challenges you actions “well, you HAVE been faithful, haven’t you” without being condemning…
As a friend, I know that I would get defensive if anything else was spoken to me, but the way that Eliphaz words this challenge, I feel is so gracious. It is simply a reminder rather than a condemning question.
Is your fear of God your confidence? How does one get to the point of being so secure in the fear of God that we fear nothing here on earth?
We pray. We ask God for that. There is nothing that he would like to give us more than intimacy with him. That’s what we were created for.
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1:27)
“And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.” (Genesis 1:31)
He was so excited about creating us -and in his image no less- he said, “They are Good.”
Grow your confidence in Him. Dig in, ask him to reveal himself to you, ask him to draw you into him. He will answer. It won’t look the way you want it to. It won’t be a simple answer. Maybe it’ll be something difficult or crushing, like what Job went through, but on the other side, I guarantee that you will see his beauty on the other side of it.
“Jesus answered him, “if anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home within him.” (John 14:23)
I love that promise. Find your confidence in his words today, sweet friend!
