to the one ready to give up

Why is winter so pretty?

“The Lord will give strength to His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace.” (Psalm 29:11)

I know, beloved. The journey is long and the road is a hard one to travel. Sometimes it is so dark you can barely see even right in front of you, let alone a greater distance. The bumps and hills on the road leave you weary and rough around the edges, and you imagine that is how it is always going to be.

But hear the Lord speaking — to me, to you, to anyone who is walking His ways. He will give you strength, to keep walking even when it is hard and you can only see darkness. He will bless you with His peace so that even though there is a storm raging and the winds are boisterous, you need not be afraid. He will walk with you, every step of the way and He will hold your hand, making sure you do not stray too far away from Him.

“Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the Lord.” (Psalm 31:24)

Yes, dear one, I know this is all breaking your heart and the journey is making you wearier than you thought, wanting to give up now. Just when you thought you get to move forward, you take a step back and it seems like you are not moving anywhere at all. Sometimes — oftentimes — we do not see the way before use, where we are supposed to go and how to get there. Or we are coming out of a season of trials, too blind to see the hope of the journey still ahead of us.

But hear this one, beloved. God is not punishing you with these hardships and trials. He is testing you, refining your faith, and He is using you for His Kingdom. At times it seems like you are going nowhere, and you cannot see the purpose for any of this. But know that He is using you for His Kingdom and for His purposes. You will get to see parts of His glory when the time is right.

We do not know at the time if what we are doing actually matters. But do not lose heart. You might not be seeing the fruit right now but it will come eventually. In your season, the fruit will come. For now just know, that He will strengthen your heart to face these days. Hold on to the hope you have in Him.

“The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” (Psalm 34:15,19)

  1. Ronja, I have to tell you how much your words encouraged me this morning. My road has been rather bumpy lately, the winds have been boisterous, and I am weary. I’ve *wrestled* with my feelings in my last two posts on my blog. Thinking about Jesus and the disciples and the storms. It’s rather amazing how God has revealed new insights into these familiar stories.

This was my favorite line: “But know that He is using you for His Kingdom and for His purposes.” Sometimes that is the hardest part of a difficult journey – thinking that you’re just stalled, stuck, and not doing anything important.

Thank you for reminding me that even the hardships are never wasted.

    1. Thank you so much for sharing this with me, Sharon! I’m sorry that life has been so hard for you lately. But what a beautiful heart and attitude you have, willing to be open about the hard times and letting God speak to you through those familiar stories!

That feeling like you’re stuck and not going anywhere or doing anything important is definitely a hard one for me. I’m so thankful that the Lord is so gracious to remind us time and time again that He can use any one of us, no matter how we feel or where we are. He will carry us through the hard times, and there is so much we can gain during those times — because we can draw near to Him.

  2. Love this post! Especially this quote, “But know that He is using you for His Kingdom and for His purposes. You will get to see parts of His glory when the time is right.” His timing is always perfect. This encouraging post helps me keep my eyes on the prize–Jesus!

    1. Beth, I’m so glad you were able to find encouragement here! Praise the Lord! 🙂 What a blessing it is to have you stop by here! Blessings!

  3. Precious words, Ronja. Thank you for this encouragement. Your post brought to mind another verse I cling to: “Don’t grow weary in doing good, for in due time you will reap a harvest if you don’t lose heart” (Galatians 6:9). God is so good to spur us on with these good words! Thank you for reminding us of them, and for linking up at Grace & Truth.

    1. Thank you so much, Jennifer! And thank you for sharing that verse, I certainly needed that and the encouragement it brought. God bless you!
